Welcome to the virtual gallery of Willy Messner, he was born in Val Gardena, in his father's workshop he started to learn the since generation practiced art of wood-carving. Since his first lessons he felt the urge to go a new way, his own way, wich was a continuation but also a development of the traditional Val Gardena wood-carvings. For his works he choose pieces of wood which maintain his original shape also after the realisation. Typical are the carved christmas cribs in walnut-tree rootstocks. He also began to sculpture the stone, the sandstone and the black limestone Bellerophon, wich he search in local mountain brook's, both are very suitable for his compositions.
